Glenn, Oly, & Bob at Pridefest 2001!
Janet (the newest faghag in San Antonio) along with Mr. Leather Fiesta 2001 at the park! Way to go Janet attending your first Gay Pride Festival! That's how to show support for your friends! Now Nate, Janet's husband was at work and didn't attend the festival!
Just what you need at a parade, "Clean Restrooms!!!
Now the Pridefest had over 25,000 people in attendence throughout the day. (That is about the population of Bob's hometown) And here are the small group of protesters who came to "spoil" the day!
They really look scary don't they, and they are outnumbered too! Butthis is America, and we support everyone's right to free speech, even when they are wrong!
San Antonio's 2001 pridefest was a day long event, and this year for the first time featured a night parade!
Wating on the parade to start, the crowd was along both sides of the street for miles!
The grand marshall of the parade was the Bexar County (The county San Antonio is in, and the "x" is silent so it is pronounced Bear) Sherrif, Ralph Lopez. No he is not Gay, but stood up for an offericers rights to self expression this year, and has become an advocate of equal rights for all. AND the man has my vote next year!
The two in the pink dresses to Janet's dismay are men, the large on is a woman!
Dykes on bikes...The gay parade equlivant of the Shriners with the little cars!
MCC Church of San Antonio's mobil house of worship!
The Texas Gay Rodeo Association's Float.... Hmmm Cowboys!
San Antonio AIDS Association passing out condoms. Hey they were in pretty colors and flavored!!!
And so ends our pictures of the parded. What we didn't get pictures of was the candle light march into the park. It was awsome, thousands of candles, and people, all remembering our friends and strangers who have died from AIDS. The following day was national AIDS awarness day, and all three of us did the deed and got tested. Everyone is fine, butthere are still new cases coming up everyday, so talk to the ones you love about sex and diseases, and for God's sake, tell them to wrap it up before the stick it in. You might feel uncomfortable taliking to them about it, but think how uncomfortable you may be telling their lifeless body that you are sorry that you didn't have that conversation.
Wow that was heavy...Hugs to all!
